Glasgow taxi fares and licensing
Current pre-replacement fare scale, sourced future replacement notice and licence-fee snapshot. The conflicting initial allowance and unresolved appeal status are identified explicitly.
Licensing authority: Glasgow City Council
Current hackney taxi tariff
- Initial fare: £4.50 for up to 880 yards or 2 minutes 45 seconds (or a combination)
- Additional distance or time: 30p for each additional 174 yards or 37 seconds
- Waiting time: 30p for each completed 37 seconds
- Night-time extra: £1.50 for hires beginning after 21:00 and before 06:00
- Christmas and New Year extra: £2.70 for the published festive periods
- Soiling charge: £47.50 (anti-social act only)
- Pre-arranged pickup: Meter may be engaged before arrival, capped at £4.50 on arrival
- Beyond Glasgow boundary: Any higher fare must be agreed before the taxi moves off
- Adopted replacement notice — 16 November 2026: The 23 September committee fixed a replacement after receiving no representations. Its Appendix names 16 November: £4.50 initial hire covering 867 yards or 163 seconds, then 30p per 172 yards or 36 seconds; soiling £48. A 25p fuel supplement applies for three months from commencement. Current pre-replacement rates above remain in use before that date.
- Document conflict and appeal condition: The adopted minutes instead print 886 yards/166 seconds for the initial allowance. TECSI does not resolve that conflict by guessing. An appeal to the Traffic Commissioner suspends the decision until dismissed, determined or abandoned; current appeal status has not been independently confirmed.
- Calculator verification boundary: Old Glasgow calculation support ends at 00:00 on 16 November 2026. The replacement is withheld pending the final operative card and appeal-status confirmation. Night and festive extras remain £1.50/£2.70 in the published replacement Appendix.
