Wiltshire taxi and private-hire licensing

This guide publishes only fields supported by the cited official sources. Anything unresolved is visibly withheld rather than inferred.

Driver licensing
Official route/source found

The published application pack directs new driver applicants to submit the completed form and supporting documents to fleet.licensing@wiltshire.gov.uk. The step-by-step guide says the council must be satisfied that the applicant is fit and proper and requires a UK address for the DBS process.

Vehicle licensing
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

In its 2026 Department for Transport return, Wiltshire reported no general age or emissions standard for taxis or private-hire vehicles, permitted CCTV in both fleets, and required daily roadworthiness checks and DBS checks for non-driver vehicle owners in both fleets. It reported a rear-window light-transmission requirement for PHVs but not taxis. The current application pack could not be recovered through the council's Cloudflare-protected route, and older 2018 material is not presented as current; confirm exact glazing, testing, document and fee requirements directly with the council.

Operator licensing
Official route/source found

Wiltshire publishes a private-hire operator application form requiring business and operating details plus the vehicles and licensed drivers intended to be operated. Changes to the vehicles or drivers must be notified to the licensing authority.

Licensing fees
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

Wiltshire's adopted 2026/27 below-CPI exceptions schedule confirms these taxi-licensing ancillary charges are unchanged from 2025/26: knowledge test £38 per test; replacement driver badge £14; replacement lost exterior plate £31; replacement internal window plate £13; replacement exterior plate holder £10; cancellation or missed half-hour appointment £50; and £11 per day when vehicle licence plates are not returned after seven days. The appendix does not contain the core driver, vehicle or private-hire operator licence prices, so those remain unverified and are not inferred from CPI or the previous year's schedule.

Taxi tariff
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

The council confirms that a new fare schedule was implemented on 1 September 2025 after consultation. The recovered 16 June 2025 minutes approve Appendix A, which prints the five tariffs: initial 176 yards £3.50/£4.80/£5.30/£4.80/£6.30; subsequent 176 yards 25p/34p/40p/45p/60p; waiting per minute 30p/40p/40p/45p/60p. The committee therefore approved waiting increases as well as mileage changes. These are primary council-approved figures, rather than secondary-reported increments. Appendix A itself has no commencement date or partial-unit wording. The final post-consultation operative card and any later revisions have not been separately recovered, so the approved appendix is not certified as a complete current meter algorithm. No calculator is enabled.

Mandatory qualifications
Official route/source found

The published new-driver guide requires an enhanced DBS check, DVLA driving-licence check, Group 2 medical standard, approved driving assessment, online safeguarding training and the council’s guidelines knowledge test; a geographical knowledge test applies where required. Applicants should confirm the latest versions and supplier arrangements before booking.

Withheld or still needing confirmation
  • Current vehicle requirements, licence fees and adopted fare card remain to be verified; historic monetary figures in the application pack are not presented as current.
  • Core 2026/27 driver, vehicle and private-hire operator licence fees are absent from the recovered below-CPI exceptions appendix and remain unverified.
  • Do not apply a CPI uplift to the 2025/26 core licence figures or present those historical figures as current.
  • The recovered official PDF is document s245211; the earlier indexed s245021 URL redirects but does not return the PDF.
  • June 2025 approved Appendix A is recovered; final post-consultation operative card/currentness, extras and exact partial-unit rounding remain unverified.
  • Official update specifies implementation on 1 September 2025; do not infer an earlier start from the June approval or the undated appendix.
  • Historic2022 card is expressly superseded; no calculator activation.
  • Exact glazing threshold, application documents, inspection schedule and fees require a current linked council source.
