Driver licensing
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

The current staged application guide requires applicants to pass the knowledge test and induction course before document verification. It then requires identity/right-to-work evidence, DVLA documents, enhanced DBS on the update service, any applicable overseas check and a Group 2 medical dated within four months.

Vehicle licensing
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

The new-vehicle guide lists the V5, compliance certificate, bill of sale, recent HPI check, insurance evidence and other documents relevant to the vehicle or applicant; incomplete submissions are rejected and require a fresh application and fee.

Operator licensing
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

In its 2026 Department for Transport return, Trafford reported 35 private-hire operator licences. It said dispatcher and booker DBS checks and a policy on employing people with convictions are required. Operators were reported as retaining 10 of the 12 booking-record fields surveyed: passenger name; booking date and time; pick-up date, time and point; main destination; driver name and licence number; and vehicle registration, but not the names of bookers or dispatchers. The return recorded a dedicated taxi and private-hire policy updated in 2023. This authority-reported return is not a complete application checklist; the separately located 2026 policy material is proposed, so confirm operative requirements, term and fees with the council.

Licensing fees
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

Current council page lists single HC/PH driver new £295/£336/£443 for one/two/three years, renewal £113/£171/£274; £23.60 extra for both classes. HC/PH vehicle £183 plus two £53 compliance tests, total £289. Knowledge test £99.75, retest £89.25; DBS £53. One-vehicle PH operator £218 for one year or £800 for five; 6–29 vehicles £495/£2,080 and 30+ £683/£2,846. The 2–5-vehicle additional-charge wording needs clarification and is not calculated here.

Taxi tariff
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

Evidence-limited fare benchmark: Private Hire and Taxi Monthly's September2026 table lists Trafford at £6.80 for a two-mile Tariff1 hackney journey. This is a dated secondary comparison, not the council's complete fare card or a verified price for another distance, departure time, passenger count or waiting period. The full current official flag, included distance, meter increments, waiting rates, night/holiday schedules and extras have not been recovered; none are inferred from this single benchmark. Confirm the fare card displayed in the licensed vehicle before travel.

Mandatory qualifications
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

Applicants must be at least 21, have held an accepted full licence for at least 12 months and evidence English speaking/listening at RQF Entry Level 3 or equivalent, unless the council accepts other qualifying evidence.

Withheld or still needing confirmation
  • Current fee amounts, operator workflow and numeric hackney tariff remain to be verified.
  • No commencement date or vehicle duration printed in recovered table.
  • Operator 2–5 band lists £41 extra per vehicle but term applicability is unclear; do not infer annual versus five-year charge.
  • The DfT return does not provide a complete current operator application checklist, licence term or fee schedule; proposed 2026 policy material is not presented as operative.
  • Benchmark only: full operative tariff and effective date remain unverified.
  • No per-mile extrapolation or calculator activation permitted; not numeric-complete.
