New applicants require twelve months holding an eligible full driving licence, the Tees Valley Taxi Assessment operated by Hartlepool, and a knowledge test including oral/written English. Reapplication after six months without renewal requires a new test certificate. Safeguarding including county-lines training is required for new applicants and at renewal. A Level 2 qualification is encouraged, not mandatory. Group 2 medical standards apply, with stated HGV-entitlement exceptions.
