Rushcliffe's combined driver application is made online after checking that all required documents, tests and approvals can be completed within the three-month application period. Applicants need a full UK driving licence held for at least one year, Enhanced DBS, council knowledge test, English evidence or test where required, identity and immigration evidence, medical examination, approved driving test, safeguarding pass and address evidence. Renewal applicants also need the applicable HMRC tax-check code.

Choose a private-hire or hackney-carriage vehicle route, arrange and pay for an MOT at a Rushcliffe-approved garage, then submit the online application within 14 days with the MOT, V5C, insurance and fee. Hackney applications also require meter-calibration and roof-sign evidence. New vehicles normally must be under eight years old; renewals may continue to 15 years, with stated exceptions. Vehicles over eight years normally receive six-month licences, while younger vehicles receive one-year licences.

A private-hire operator's base must be inside Rushcliffe. Apply online for the five-year licence and pay within the application form. An applicant who is not already a Rushcliffe-licensed driver must provide a Basic DBS check, and the proposed premises may require planning permission. Operators must accept advance bookings, retain the prescribed booking, vehicle, driver, insurance and complaint records, and make those records available for inspection.

The council's current fee page does not state when its figures commenced. A new driver licence is £345 for three years or £199 for one year; renewal is £315 or £164, and the current fee page lists knowledge and driving tests at £35 and an English test at £54. A vehicle application is £228. A five-year operator licence is £1,060 before vehicles, with £139 per vehicle for one to four vehicles and published total bands from £2,030 for five to seven vehicles.

Rushcliffe's current vehicle page links the approved hackney-carriage fare notice, which states that the table took effect on 12 August 2022. From 6am to 10pm the meter starts at £2 for the first 122.2 yards, then adds 20p for each 86.2 yards to one mile and 20p for each further 160 yards; waiting is 20p per 38 seconds. A separate overnight scale applies from 10pm to 6am. Specified Christmas and New Year periods are fare-and-a-half, bank holidays add £1, and the notice lists a non-enforced £60 soiling charge.

Drivers must pass Rushcliffe's computerised knowledge test, an approved spoken-English test unless exempt, the required medical examination, an approved driving test and vulnerable-person safeguarding training. They must also provide Enhanced DBS, DVLA, local-authority and NR3 evidence as part of the fit-and-proper assessment, plus identity and right-to-work documents. The spoken-English requirement applies to new grants and renewals from 1 April 2023.
Withheld or still needing confirmation
- The current council fee page provides numeric figures but no publication, financial-year or commencement date, so the amounts are released with an explicit effective-date gap.
- The current driver route still displays £33 for the knowledge test and £52 for the English test, while the council's dedicated current fee page lists £35 and £54. The release uses the dedicated fee page and does not reproduce the lower route-page figures.
- The linked fare notice's filename contains the word 'proposed', but the live current vehicle page links it as the hackney-carriage table of fares and the document itself says the table was approved and would take effect on 12 August 2022. It is released only on that combined current-page and enacted-notice evidence.
- The £60 soiling amount is expressly described as not enforceable by the Licensing Authority and must not be presented as a statutory or council-enforced charge.
