- Operator licensing
- Official route/source found
The current migrated council guide requires a North Tyneside operating base with planning consent. Applicants provide Basic DBS within one month unless already a council-licensed driver, passport/right-to-work evidence, tax-responsibility acknowledgement and business plan. The plan covers booking/subcontracting arrangements, records, advertising, staff register, ex-offender policy, complaints and lost property. Operators must inspect Basic DBS for booking/dispatch staff. The fee page currently lists £354 for one year or £1,360 for five years; no fee commencement date is printed. Lawful subcontracting to another licensed operator is explicitly allowed.
- Licensing fees
- Official evidence found; detail still to confirm
Withheld: no current official licensing fees detail has been verified.
- Taxi tariff
- Official evidence found; detail still to confirm
Tariff content checked 23 October 2026. The recovered current council page expressly gives approved fares from 11 November 2024. Ordinary tariff 1 starts at £2.40 for 161.3 yards or 46.8 seconds, then 25p per started matching unit. Tariff 2 starts at £3.15 for 140.5 yards or 45 seconds, then 25p, covering nights, Sundays, bank holidays and the stated 27–31 December period. Extras are separately listed. This replaces the secondary-only source gap; combined time/distance modelling remains unimplemented.
- Mandatory qualifications
- Official evidence found; detail still to confirm
The council's driver pack requires every applicant to complete its online Safeguarding Awareness training. The knowledge test has a 90% pass threshold: private-hire applicants take section 1 only, with 30 questions on conduct, licensing law, safeguarding and the relevant Highway Code; hackney applicants also take location and route sections. Applicants have three attempts within three months, followed by a six-month wait after a third failure. The pack also requires Group 2 medical evidence, DBS Update Service enrolment and a full UK or EU/EEA driving licence held for at least 12 months. This is substantive official evidence dated 4 December 2024, but no current page linking the migrated document or separate disability/practical-assessment requirement was established, so current completeness remains partial.
