- Driver licensing
- Official route/source found
Pass Mansfield's four-part knowledge test before submitting the combined hackney-carriage/private-hire driver application. The current council page and linked pack require the completed form, driving licence and DVLA code, DBS evidence, photographs, right-to-work evidence, Group 2 medical evidence, safeguarding certificate and, where applicable, overseas good-conduct certificates. New and renewal licences are normally issued for three years.
- Vehicle licensing
- Official route/source found
Book a compliance check at the council's Hermitage Lane Vehicle Testing Station, then use the council vehicle application. Before the mechanical test, provide the passed compliance sheet, vehicle-registration document or bill of sale, valid insurance, any applicable MOT certificate and payment. A new vehicle must pass both the compliance check and mechanical test before the licence can be considered.
- Operator licensing
- Official route/source found
Apply or renew through Mansfield's private-hire operator route and use only council-licensed vehicles and drivers. The linked form and policy require the completed application, relevant company or partnership details, two references for a new application, right-to-work evidence, basic DBS, safeguarding evidence, public-liability insurance, any applicable employers' liability insurance, and tax confirmation or renewal tax-check code.
- Licensing fees
- Official evidence found; detail still to confirm
The council's currently linked forms list a three-year new driver licence at £311 and renewal at £247; a hackney-carriage vehicle licence at £341 and private-hire vehicle licence at £311; and operator licences from £450 for one year to £855 for five years. The forms do not state when those application fees took effect. Separately, the council's 2026/27 schedule lists the annual taxi test at £56, partial retest £18, full retest £44 and compliance test £37.
- Taxi tariff
- Official route/source found
Mansfield's current policy confirms that the council sets a maximum hackney-carriage tariff and supplies the authorised fare table to licence holders, while private-hire fares are not council-set. No current numeric fare table or operative date was found on the council's public pages, so no Mansfield tariff figures are released from this record.
- Mandatory qualifications
- Official route/source found
Drivers must pass the council knowledge test with at least 80% in each of its legislation, licence-conditions, local-routes and Highway Code sections. The council also requires a full driving licence held for at least 12 months, annual DVLA and DBS checks, Group 2 medical fitness, right-to-work evidence and safeguarding training. Applicants resident abroad for more than six months need the specified good-conduct certificate.
Withheld or still needing confirmation
- No current public numeric Mansfield hackney-carriage fare table or operative date was found; the current policy says the authorised table is supplied to licence holders, so tariff figures are withheld.
- The current-linked driver, vehicle and operator forms publish application fees but do not state an effective date; they are labelled as current-linked and undated, not as 2026/27 charges.
- The vehicle form contains older test-fee figures and warns of changes from April 2025; the release summary therefore uses the separate council 2026/27 schedule for test and retest charges.
- Medical, DBS and other third-party costs can change independently and are not represented as part of the licence fee.
