Driver licensing
Official route/source found

Call the Licensing Team on 01522 873715 for the hackney-carriage or private-hire driver application pack, which sets out the requirements and costs; the council also offers a generic online form-request service. Applicants must be fit and proper, at least 21, and have held a full UK, Northern Ireland or qualifying European driving licence for at least two years.

Vehicle licensing
Official route/source found

City of Lincoln Council confirms that it licenses hackney-carriage and private-hire vehicles. Its current public route is to request the required licence application form online or contact the Licensing Team. The public taxi page does not set out a vehicle-specific document checklist, so applicants should use the council-issued pack and must not rely on an inferred checklist.

Operator licensing
Official route/source found

City of Lincoln Council confirms that it licenses private-hire operators and that private-hire journeys must be pre-booked through a licensed operator. Request the operator application form through the council's online licence-form service or contact the Licensing Team. The current public pages do not publish a fuller operator-specific application checklist, so the council-issued pack remains authoritative.

Licensing fees
Official route/source found

The 2026/27 council schedule applies from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Hackney fees are £148.20 for a one-year driver licence, £277.10 for three years and £157 for a one-year vehicle licence. Private-hire fees are £117.20 for a one-year driver licence, £254.10 for three years and £128 for a one-year vehicle licence. A five-year operator licence is £422 for fewer than 10 vehicles or £1,255 for 10 or more; the knowledge test is £39.

Taxi tariff
Official evidence found; detail still to confirm

The council's current Licence Downloads page links this maximum-fare card. Rate 1, for one to four passengers from 6am to 9pm, starts at £3.80 for the first 191 yards, then adds 25p per 191 yards or 40 seconds waiting. Rate 2 starts at £4.80 and adds 35p per 208 yards or 40 seconds in its stated night, larger-party and holiday periods. The fare card contains the date 11/01/2012 but does not label an effective date, so no commencement date is asserted.

Mandatory qualifications
Official route/source found

Applicants need a DVLA driving-record check, DBS check, medical examination, driving knowledge test, Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership driving assessment and safeguarding training. They must also provide good-conduct certificates for any other country in which they lived for a significant period of three months or more, plus two passport photographs and the evidence required by the application pack.

Withheld or still needing confirmation
  • The current-linked fare card does not label an operative or commencement date. It bears the date 11/01/2012, but that date is not described as the tariff's effective date and is not represented as one.
  • The council's current public pages provide a generic application-form request and licensing contact but no vehicle-specific or operator-specific application checklist; unlisted steps and documents are not inferred.
  • DBS and DVLA checks are recharged at cost in the 2026/27 fee schedule, while the driving assessment and medical costs are not fixed there; no numeric third-party cost is inferred.
  • The fare card's diesel surcharge is conditional on pump-price thresholds; this record does not assert that the threshold is currently met.
