Driver licensing

Choose dual hackney/private-hire or private-hire-only licensing. Applicants must be 18 or older, have held a full licence for 12 months, have right to work and understand English. Complete medical fitness, enhanced DBS or Update registration, DVLA and applicable tax checks before submitting the online application.

New private-hire vehicles must meet Euro6, be M1 approved or converted with corresponding IVA, taxed and insured for hire/reward. CategoryS write-offs are prohibited; CategoryN is considered individually. Obtain compliance certification at Adam's Autos before online application; vehicles aged eight or more need six-monthly compliance tests. MOT at the compliance test is optional for licensing according to the page. Submit insurance,V5 or keeper slip,applicable IVA and compliance certificate. Driver and operator must also be Huntingdonshire licensed. Fees from1April2026 are £316 initial and£242 annual renewal for PH or hackney;£79 insurance replacement covers three months.

Operator licensing

Apply through the licensing portal with driver, vehicle and public-facing staff lists; safeguarding certificate; tax code (company code for a limited company); Basic DBS under three months or suitable registered enhanced DBS; right-to-work evidence; non-domestic occupation permission; ICO registration; and public liability insurance if a waiting area is provided. Provide complaints, staff/driver training, ex-offender recruitment, safeguarding and lost-property policies. Check planning requirements for commercial or residential premises. Trading names cannot use 'Taxi' or 'Cab'. An officer reviews the complete application before grant.

Current HTML lists £2.90/£3.90/£4.90 for first 110 yards, then 30p/50p/50p per 200 yards. Daytime Monday–Saturday is 07:00–19:00; night/Sunday/bank-holiday and festive bands apply separately. Festive spans Christmas Eve 19:00–Boxing Day 07:00 and New Year's Eve 19:00–New Year's Day 07:00. Waiting/low-speed time below 16.79 km/h is 40p per started 40 seconds. Five-plus passengers add £3; soiling £80. HTML says 'completed part' while proposed PDF says 'uncompleted part', and night heading says 'Monday and Saturday'; these wording differences are retained for review rather than silently corrected.

Mandatory qualifications

Pass knowledge/competency and driving assessments and undertake safeguarding training. Knowledge covers numeracy, English, conditions and Highway Code; routes apply to dual drivers. A GP completing the Group 2 examination must have full medical records.
