Email licensing@erewash.gov.uk for the new-driver pack, complete the forms, then book an officer appointment on 0115 907 1110; the fee is paid at the appointment. Applicants must have held a full current driving licence for at least 12 months and complete the council's practical assessment, enhanced DBS and Update Service, Group 2 medical, knowledge test, safeguarding training and right-to-work check.

First pay the licence fee and book the council inspection at Merlin Way. Submit the council application form with 12-month hire-and-reward insurance, V5 or detailed proof of ownership, the applicable MOT and the council depot pass sheet. Vehicles under five receive one included annual test; vehicles over five receive two included tests six months apart. Vehicle plates normally run for 12 months.

Operator licensing

A private-hire operator licence is required to accept bookings or supply drivers and lasts up to five years. The council states that the applicant must demonstrate the right to work in the UK, provide an up-to-date Basic criminal-record check and complete the applicable HMRC tax check. Use the council application-form index or contact licensing@erewash.gov.uk for the current form and submission process.

The enacted maximum fare table took effect on 22 June 2026. Mandatory qualifications
Official route/source found

New applicants need an approved practical driving assessment, enhanced DBS check with Online Update Service subscription, DVLA Group 2 medical, and safeguarding training. The four-part knowledge test covers licence conditions, disability and safeguarding, local geography, and the Highway Code; at least 70% is required in every section. Right-to-work evidence is mandatory.

Withheld or still needing confirmation
  • The council's dedicated taxi-fees webpage still labels itself 2025/26, so the 2026/27 values are taken from the council's official finance schedule rather than that stale page.
  • The practical-driving-assessment section says the listed interim providers temporarily replace the former DVSA assessment; applicants should confirm the provider list in the current pack before booking.
