Derbyshire Dales District Council · Sources checked 13 September 2026
- Driver licensing
- Official route/source found
Use the council's taxi and private-hire service hub and prescribed driver application form. The adopted policy requires the knowledge test to be passed before the application is considered, followed by the complete form, fee and supporting evidence. A combined hackney-carriage/private-hire driver licence normally lasts three years; the policy says renewal documents should reach the council no later than six weeks before expiry.
- Vehicle licensing
- Official route/source found
Apply on the council's prescribed vehicle form with the fee, V5 or bill of sale, insurance, MOT evidence where applicable, write-off evidence for a used vehicle and the required proprietor information. The vehicle must meet the policy specification and pass the council's approved-station inspection. A normal licence lasts 12 months; a six-month option has been available from 1 May 2024 where the vehicle is known not to remain licensed for the full year.
- Operator licensing
- Official route/source found
A private-hire operating base must be within Derbyshire Dales. Apply on the council form with the fee and supporting documents; the policy requires a current Basic DBS unless its licensed-driver exception applies, operating and manager details, relevant passenger and safeguarding policies, and public-liability insurance where applicable. The council normally grants operator licences for five years and accepts applications by email to licensing@derbyshiredales.gov.uk.
- Licensing fees
- Official evidence found; detail still to confirm
Secondary reference only: TaxiTools (publisher check 2 August 2026) reports three-year driver £224.03, annual HC/PH vehicle £414.88 including two inspections, and five-year operator £556.82. It also reports conflicting year labels in the council schedule: title April 2026–March 2027 but taxi columns 2025/26. Direct council source remained inaccessible. Treat figures as unconfirmed reference amounts, not current payable fees.
- Taxi tariff
- Official route/source found
Tariff content checked 23 October 2026. A council statutory notice dated 23 September 2026, published on 30 September, proposed changes to tariffs 1 and 2, with tariff 3 unchanged. Objections closed on 15 October. The proposed 16 October start was conditional on approval and the objection outcome. The final outcome and confirmed operative replacement card have not been recovered; proposed figures are not presented as current fares.
- Mandatory qualifications
- Official route/source found
New drivers must pass the written knowledge test with at least 80% in each of its three sections. The adopted policy also requires a DVLA Group 2 medical, enhanced DBS including adult and child barred-list checks with Update Service subscription, right-to-work evidence and safeguarding/CSE awareness training within six months of grant, refreshed every three years. Drivers of wheelchair-accessible vehicles need the stated NVQ or PATS competence before driving one.
Withheld or still needing confirmation
- No current official 2026/27 numeric taxi and private-hire fee schedule was located; all fee figures are withheld.
- The current taxi service hub was linked from the council's live home page but returned an access-protection challenge to the research client. Application detail was therefore taken only from the council's official adopted-policy records.
- Council403; secondary explicitly reports fee-year contradiction. No current numeric fee verification.
- Preserve prior verified fields.
- Final approval, objection outcome and the operative replacement fare card remain unconfirmed following the September 2026 notice; the conditional 16 October date alone does not establish commencement.
