The current-linked final policy requires approved driver skills assessment covering driving, navigation, English communication, taxi law, safeguarding and disability/wheelchair awareness. Section 4 requires assessment evidence within three years for new and renewing drivers. It also requires Group 2 medical fitness, enhanced DBS including both barred lists, and DBS Update Service membership. Group 2 examination is required initially, at 45 and five-yearly to 65, then annually, unless medical circumstances shorten the interval. The safeguarding section requires a course/test and renewal certificates within three months, on a three-year driver cycle. However it retains an implementation-to-be-confirmed parenthesis for existing licensees; the current application hub warns that its pages are being updated and directs applicants to this policy.
