Vehicle applicants must provide hire-and-reward insurance before grant. Hackney and private hire vehicles undergo an authorised-garage compliance inspection covering MOT elements plus additional licensing standards. Owners book directly with an authorised garage and should request an MOT certificate when booking, because it is not automatically included. The garage reports the inspection result and sends documents to licensing within 24 hours. Completed application forms go to Time Square.

Official October 2025 consultation material identifies the then-current annual vehicle fees as £310.50 new and £276 renewal, and gives the then-current five-vehicle operator examples as £862.50 new and £724.50 renewal. An official September 2025 comparison records Bracknell's three-year driver fee as £296. The council consulted on 2026–27 vehicle fees of £333 new/£296 renewal and a fleet-banded operator schedule, but received an objection requesting a freeze; the final Bracknell decision has not been independently recovered. Tariff content checked 23 October 2026. The final Cabinet decision of 19 May 2026 approved the fare card effective 29 May 2026. Its ordinary bands start at £3.20, £4.80 or £6.40 for 415 yards or 122.96 seconds, or a combination; further started 135-yard or 40-second units cost 20p, 30p or 40p. Five-or-more-passenger bands have separate prices. The adopted card sets interior/exterior fouling at £80/£25 and lists airport and emission-zone charges. The general council webpage still shows older 83-second and £50/£10 figures; this guide uses the final adopted card. No calculator model is enabled for the combined initial allowance.
