Official route/source found

Applicants must be at least 18 and have held a full UK, EC or EEA driving licence for at least one year. Pass the council knowledge test before applying, then submit the required identity, driving-licence, DBS, right-to-work, medical, safeguarding and reference evidence. A renewal must be completed before expiry; more than one month late is treated as a new application.

Submit the form and fee with the V5 or qualifying bill of sale, insurance, an MOT valid for at least two months, an HPI certificate for a new or replacement vehicle, and SVA evidence where applicable. A proprietor who is not a licensed driver must provide a basic DBS. The vehicle must meet council specifications and pass the council's supplementary inspection.

Each individual applicant, partner or company director must complete the relevant declaration and provide the fee, two references, right-to-work evidence, safeguarding certificate and the required basic disclosure unless the council's stated enhanced-DBS exemption applies. Public and employer liability insurance are required where applicable.

Taxi tariff
Official route/source found

Tariff content checked 23 October 2026. The current council webpage publishes ordinary daytime £4.40 for the first mile, with its following tenth-mile increment malformed as 21pm; the large-party daytime row separately prints 21p. Overnight is £3.30 for the first seventh-mile, then 30p per seventh-mile or part. Specified festive fares are double daytime rates; ordinary bank holidays use the night band. Waiting is 11p per 20 seconds, without an incomplete-period rule. The April 2026 council report identifies 12 May 2022 as the last scale change. Partial waiting remains withheld, and the malformed daytime unit is disclosed rather than silently treated as a corrected official source.

Mandatory qualifications
Official route/source found

Before grant, applicants must pass the council knowledge test, the council-specified taxi driving test unless the stated Driver CPC exemption applies, a DVLA Group 2 medical through the council's designated provider, enhanced DBS checks and the Nottinghamshire safeguarding-vulnerable-persons course. The knowledge test allows three attempts; after three failures the wait is 12 months.
